Vauxhall Motability Adaptations

The Motability Scheme offers hundreds of adaptations ranging from simple driving controls to electric hoists to lift a wheelchair user into a standard car. All Motability adaptations are designed to help make the driving or travelling experience as easy and comfortable as possible. In most cases the vehicles controls can still be used with the adaptations in place, so nominated drivers can still use the car. It’s important though to note that most driving control adaptions can only be used in an automatic vehicle. The choice of Motability adaptations that are available fall into three general categories: Driving, Stowage or Access.

Driving adaptations enable a disabled person to drive where it would otherwise not be possible, and can help with speed control, steering and signalling and they vary from simple attachments, to replacing standard factory controls with a bespoke system designed for the individuals special needs and requirements. Driving adaptations include:

• Hand controls
• Electronic accelerators
• Left foot accelerators
• Pedal modifications
• Steering aids
• Remote control devices

Motability Stowage Adaptions are designed to lift your wheelchair or scooter into your car, such as an electric boot hoist or rooftop stowage system and both work with just the touch of a button.

A Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) is not the only option available for wheelchair users when they are looking at how they will access their Motability car. There are a number of Motability Access Adaptions that can be installed on a standard car and include:

• Transfer plates
• Electric person hoist
• Swivel seats
